Regarding LED’s Lifespan and Exchange

BALMUDA design’s LED lighting products last long past 50,000 hours of use and after such time, keeps 70% of its original brightness.

How much is 50,000 hours exactly? 50,000 hours is approximately 23 years of continuous use at 6 hours of a day, 7 days a week. And because there’s no need to change the LED light bulb, our desk lights are truly maintenance-free.

LED’s Lifespan

Normally, what determines the lifespan of a light source is it’s luminosity when it  drops to 50% of its original brightness.  However, the LED used in BALMUDA products are high-powered; thus, even after 50,000 hours of use the brightness is maintained at a remarkable 70% of its original brightness. And from thereafter the brightness declines at an even slower pace. So slow that the LED makers themselves has yet to confirm the exact amount of time it takes for the high power LED to reach its lifespan.  

With no need to replace the LEDs on any of the BALMUDA products, it truly is maintenance-free.

Regarding Repairs

At BALMUDA design, we use custom-build high-power LEDs with outstanding lifespan. This means that the LEDs themselves may last longer than its circuit, base, or adapter therefore, those parts may need repairing after a certain amount of time.

Furthermore, the LED lights used by BALMUDA are not sold in stores and are permanently attached to the head of the light using a solder. Therefore, repairs by the customer him/herself is not  possible. 

Consequently, if the LEDs themselves suddenly darken or problems with the power button occur, we ask that you kindly send the item along with its adapter to BALMUDA design.

Guidelines for Shipping Products for Repair

When sending BALMUDA design’s LED desk light for repairs, please be aware that the shipping fee is determined according to one of the two guidelines:

(1)Within one year of purchase

So long as BALMUDA design’s lighting product is under its product warranty duration, we provide repairs at no charge. Neither shipping and handling nor repair fees will be charged.

(2)After one year of purchase

Even after the product’s warranty has been expired, we provide repairs with a fee.  Additionally, all shipment costs must be covered by the customer. 

Estimates for repairs are usually given after the product has been inspected and the cause has been identified by BALMUDA design repair team.
