BALMUDA Connect Privacy Policy
The original and controlling language of this Policy is Japanese, and this English version is provided for reference only.
BALMUDA Co., Ltd. (“BALMUDA,” “we,” or “us”) establishes this privacy policy (this “Policy”) regarding the handling of personal data and other information about users (collectively, “User Data”) in connection with BALMUDA Connect, the application we provide (the “App”). All customers who use the App (the “Users” or “User”) must review this Policy and may use the App only if they agree to all of it.
Unless otherwise provided, terms used in this Policy shall have the meanings defined in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan (the “APPI”).
Article 1 (Acquisition of User Data)
- In providing the App and related services, we acquire User Data. The items of User Data we acquire are as follows:
(1) Data related to account registration, login, identity verification, etc.
Including email address, ID, and social‑login information (information such as the email address, ID, name, identifiers, etc. registered to accounts of external services such as Google, Apple, and Facebook)
(2) Data related to use of Supported Devices, the App, and related services
Including model numbers, manufacturing numbers, and serial numbers of electric appliances and other devices designated by us as linkable with the App (collectively, “Supported Devices”); version information for software and firmware related to Supported Devices and the App; configuration information for Supported Devices (e.g., volume, operating mode, timer settings, and other information); information measured, detected, or collected by Supported Devices (e.g., environmental information such as temperature and humidity, and other information); history information such as access, use, operation, and error events for Supported Devices and the App; and information on transaction details and purchase history.
(3) Data related to communications among Supported Devices, Users’ devices, servers, etc.
Including User‑device information (OS, version information, settings such as language/notifications/display and other settings information, hardware information, and other information); IP address; MAC‑address information related to Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth connections; device IDs issued by cloud‑service providers; access logs; information regarding the communications environment; browser information; location information; and information related to cookies, etc. (including cookies, advertising identifiers (IDFA/AAID), in‑app SDKs, etc., but not limited thereto; the same applies hereinafter).
(4) Other Data
Including information related to inquiries and communications from Users; information related to notices and communications from us to Users; and information regarding Users’ attributes, browsing/purchase histories, location, etc., collected and provided by our Partner Businesses (including, without limitation, DMP providers, research/analytics companies, media companies, and database‑management companies; the same applies hereinafter) (collectively, the “Attribute Information, etc.”), and analytical results thereof. - Except as required by law, we acquire the User Data in paragraph 1, as appropriate to its nature, by one of the following methods: provision by the User; automatic acquisition through the App or Supported Devices; or provision by our Partner Businesses. Please note that if you do not provide necessary User Data, you may be unable to use all or part of the App and related services.
Article 2 (Purpose of Use)
We use User Data within the scope of the following purposes:
(1) For registration, identity verification, user authentication, account linking, and other administration related to the App and related services.
(2) For providing, operating, monitoring the status of, maintaining, and improving the functions of the App and Supported Devices; for providing related services; and for after‑sales service.
(3) For distribution, updates, and management of content, software, and firmware related to the App and related services.
(4) For providing notices regarding our products, services, campaigns, sweepstakes, surveys, etc. (including, without limitation, analyzing Users’ Attribute Information, etc. and providing notices tailored to Users’ circumstances and interests).
(5) For maintenance and administration of the App and related services.
(6) For prevention, investigation, and response to fraud and other improper acts.
(7) For improving our products and services, and for planning, researching, and developing new products and services.
(8) For analysis, research, planning, consideration, and implementation of our marketing activities.
(9) On media provided by us or by third parties, to conduct analyses based on Users’ Attribute Information, etc.; to deliver information regarding products and services in line with interests, concerns, and tendencies inferred from such analyses; to verify or analyze the effectiveness thereof; and/or to provide products and services in line with such analyses.
(10) For responding to inquiries.
(11) For notices and communications related to the App and related services.
(12) For responses based on requests from laws or from public agencies such as courts or administrative authorities.
(13) For provision to third parties to the extent permitted under this Policy and laws and regulations.
Article 3 (Provision to Third Parties, etc.)
- Except as set forth in this Policy or in any of the following cases, we do not provide User Data to third parties without obtaining the User’s prior consent:
(1) When required by law
(2) When it is necessary to protect a person’s life, body, or property and it is difficult to obtain the User’s consent
(3) When it is particularly necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the User’s consent
(4) When it is necessary to cooperate with a national government agency, local public entity, or a party engaged by such agency/entity in performing affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the User’s consent is likely to impede the performance of such affairs
(5) Other where it is permitted by law - When a User utilizes a social‑login function, we may provide User Data to, or obtain User Data from, the following third parties. The applicable categories of User Data and purposes of use in such cases are as described in Article 1, paragraph 1, item (1) and Article 2, item (1). (3) Meta Platforms, Inc.: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy - We may, at BALMUDA or at third parties, conduct analyses based on Users’ Attribute Information, etc., and, for the purpose of developing or improving products and services, provide to our Partner Businesses, or obtain from them, information about Users that, by itself, does not identify a specific individual.
- To stop the automatic transmission of User Data, please unlink the Supported Device information from within the App and log out of the App. To stop using the App and related services, you can delete your account from within the App.
- Within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use described in Article 2, we may provide User Data to, or entrust its handling to, third parties located in the following foreign countries. Country‑specific reference information is as follows. Please note that, because we select appropriate third parties as needed for provision or entrustment, it may not be possible at this time to identify the recipients or contractors and their countries/regions, and we may provide to or entrust handling to third parties located in countries/regions other than those listed below. In such cases, we may commence provision or entrustment to the new third parties without obtaining Users’ consent again.

Personal‑information protection measures implemented by the recipients: The recipients (including contractors) handle User Data in compliance with applicable foreign laws and regulations. For differences between obligations imposed on business operators and the rights of individuals in the relevant foreign country and those under Japan’s APPI, please refer to the information provided by the PPC at the link above. In addition, under our contracts, we confirm that the recipients implement security measures equivalent to our own to prevent data breach and other incidents involving User Data.

For differences between obligations imposed on business operators and the rights of individuals in the relevant foreign country and those under Japan’s APPI, please refer to the information provided by the PPC at the link above. In addition, under our contracts, we confirm that the recipients implement security measures equivalent to our own to prevent data breach and other incidents involving User Data.
Article 4 (Security Measures)
We take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent data breach including leakage, loss, or damage of User Data and otherwise ensure the security management of User Data. For information on the security measures we take, please contact the point of contact specified in Article 6.
Article 5 (Requests for Disclosure, etc.)
Pursuant to the APPI, a User may request notification of purposes of use; disclosure; correction, addition, or deletion; suspension of use or erasure; and cessation of provision to third parties, with respect to the User’s personal data retained by us. For the procedures, required documents, fees, etc. for making such requests, please contact the point of contact specified in Article 6.

Article 8 (Amendments to this Policy)
- We may amend the content of this Policy in response to changes in laws and regulations or in our business, etc. We will notify Users of such amendments by appropriate methods such as notices within the App or postings on our website.
- Amendments under the preceding paragraph take effect on the date we notify or on the effective date specified in the notice.
- Notwithstanding paragraphs 1 and 2, if laws or regulations require prior notice, Users’ consent, or other actions in relation to amendments to this Policy, we will provide such prior notice and/or obtain the necessary consent from Users.
